The Esper Family is why I enjoy lifestyle sessions and will be offering them as my preferred type of family, maternity, or non-engagement couple sessions. Why?
Prior to the Esper's session, I was driving from another location about half an hour away. Showing up at their home meant that one, their two year old daughter would be waiting in the comforts of her own home, playing with her own toys, in an environment she was already familiar with. And we all know that the little ones MUST be kept happy in order for a family session to go well.
I arrived at the Esper's beautiful Elgin home a few minutes early to scope some areas for the best shots. While I was doing so, Zakiya was finishing with her wardrobe and I was able to chat with her daughter Ryan, who welcomed me and showed me some of her toys and books. She was confident and comfortable and was already warming up to me, so it made the transition to begin the session out side that much easier.
After a few shots outside, we made our way back inside, as we realized that Ryan was getting a bit tired. Ryan and her Daddy began playing with play-doh and eventually she retired to the couch where Mom read her a story that put her right to sleep!
Especially for a mom of multiples or with a child on the shy side, in-home lifestyle sessions are the way to go! It may mean you need to clean up your family space for a clutter-free area, but it eliminates the stress of having to commute to another location before and after your session, a child having to adapt to a new environment, and creates a more personal connection.

Zakiya, Darnel, and Ryan were expecting a baby boy at the time of this shoot. As you read this, the Espers are now a family of 4 and little Reece is in the great care of his big sister, Ryan!
